The Complaint:
My child has just started kindergarten and I'm concerned. Mrs. Paulson has a bad reputation for hurting kids in the past. I was trying not to buy into the rumors, but now my son is coming home with some disturbing stories. For example (this is hearsay, of course), a student was crying loudly due to a small cut on his hand. The teacher got so aggravated by his crying that she sat him facing out of the classroom (back to class) and had him project the crying sounds out into the hallway. Later on, she decided to give him a band-aid. The other parents that I have spoken to are also aware of this teacher's short fuse, frustration with the kids, and overreaction to other minor events. Her anger level is making me anxious. We love the school, and don't want to leave, so we need to figure out how to deal with this potentially volatile situation.
